Balangiga Press is proud to introduce the first-ever segment to the series “Hotseat Conversations.” The event is the first in a series of conversations with celebrated guests within the world of literature and its migrant communities. This new global series will highlight literature of the diaspora, of migrants, and of Filipinos in the homeland. The first edition of the series will feature guest author Romalyn Ante, a prominent poet and full-time nurse in the UK.
Romalyn Ante was born in the Philippines but lives in the UK. Her debut collection is Antiemetic for Homesickness (Chatto & Windus). She was appointed Poet-in-Residence at Shakespeare Birthplace Trust / Hosking Houses Trust in 2019 and has received prestigious prizes for poetry, including the Poetry London Prize (2018). She is longlisted for the Dylan Thomas Prize (2021). Her website is romalynante.com.
Romalyn Ante will take the hotseat, facilitated by Angela Gabrielle Fabunan. Angela Gabrielle Fabunan lives in the Philippines but grew up in New York City. She has won the Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature in 2016. Her first book, The Sea That Beckoned, was published by Platypus Press in 2019, and her second book, Young Enough to Play, is forthcoming from UP Press in 2021. Her poems have been published extensively in Asia, the UK, and the US. Her website is agfabunan.journoportfolio.com.
We hope you will join us for this gathering via FB Live Stream on Saturday February 20, 2021 at 12PM London time and 8PM Philippine time. #BalangigaTalks
